CLIC Sargent

Nailsworth C of E Primary School are proud to support CLIC Sargent

CLIC Sargent provide specialist support, to help and guide young cancer patients and their families.

Wilm’s Tumour is a rare type of kidney cancer that only affects about 85 children a year in the UK.

Our reason for supporting this charity is because a pupil in our Year 2 class has sadly been diagnosed with Wilm’s Tumour and is very poorly at the moment.  He has undergone an operation to remove his tumours and has already received several sessions of Chemotherapy.  He is currently receiving daily radiotherapy at Bristol Children’s hospital, and will be starting Chemotherapy again next week.  He is looking at several more months of treatment but is being extremely brave; he has recently rejoined his friends at Nailsworth Primary School and we are delighted to have him back in class with us.

We are raising funds for CLIC Sargent, a charity that his family are keen to support.  CLIC Sargent work tirelessly to support patients and their families in every way needed; emotionally, practically, financially, educationally and clinically.  Through extensive research and by campaigning for policy change, they also give young Cancer patients’ and their families a voice to politicans and decision makers across the UK.

So, how are we raising funds?

Over the next few months there will be a number of fundraising activities taking place. Our original online fundraising target was £1,600.00 and we have already outstripped that figure. Here are some of the activities we are doing:

Valentine’s Disco Cake Sale: 14th Feb 2019

We raised a fantastic £189.55 for CLIC Sargent

Art for Sale @ PULP

One of our talented artists in year 1 has been selling his pictures to raise money. His pictures are on sale in PULP the stationary shop in Nailsworth if you would like to purchase any.

So far, he has raised £268.83!

World Book Day 1 Mile Run: Friday 8th March 2019

Children and staff ran one mile to show support for the Bath Half Marathon runners. Some parents and family members  joined in with the children and some came to cheer us on.

Refreshments and cakes, made by Reception raised £135.30 for CLIC Sargent!

Bath half marathon: Sunday 17th March 2019, 11am

An intrepid Nailsworth team of staff, partners and parents (Heidi North, Sarah Edwards, Vince Southcott, Clare Tyler-Sell, Mark Davis, Amanda Jordan, Natalie Wooldridge and Andrew Pickford) ran the Bath half marathon on Sunday 17th March 2019.

They all completed the challenge, running all the way. Well done to Heidi and Andy who stormed  the course finishing around 90 minutes or under. They where followed by Natalie and Sarah both close to the 2 hour mark, then Mark, Amanda and Clare who hit the 2.5 hour mark (fab result for Mark and Amanda as newbies). Finally Mr. Southcott ensured all the other runners finished safely in beating 3 hours and the sweep up cart!

The Table Mountain KS2 Challenge: Thursday 6th June 2019

In June, the whole of KS2 will be tackling a mountain walk up Crug Hywell (Table Mountain) in the Brecon Beacons, Wales. Last year, KS2 did tremendously well climbing 1000 ft to the top of Mount Skirrid to raise money for another charity so this year we thought we would top their record. This walk will be a massive challenge with 1479 feet to conquer to the top!

This is a sponsored event and all of KS2 already have their sponsor forms to raise as much money as possible for CLIC Sargent.

The walk should take us about 2 hours to get to the top, taking in stunning views and scenery of the Black Mountains. We will have a picnic on the top before making our descent back down.

Woodchester KS1 Walking Challenge: Monday 24th June 2019

KS1 picked up the baton from KS2 with a more local walk around the picturesque and vast grounds surrounding Woodchester Mansion – not so much up hill but still a challenging 6 mile walk for little legs!  Another sponsored event that took our grand total fundraising to over £4,800.

Thank you to everyone for your amazing generosity for this vital charity.
