The British Association for Early Childhood Education have published Development Matters. This details the Early Learning Goals which the Government feels an average child should be working at by the end of Reception class. The descriptors are displayed on the wall, outside of our classroom. This details the whole curriculum that children are expected to cover from nursery right through to year one (birth – 40-60+months). You can view Development Matters by following the link below:
For a simplified overview, you can download the Early Learning Goals for Reception year:
The Early Learning Goals are what every child is expected to reach by the end of Reception year divided into key learning areas: communication and language; physical development; personal, social and emotional development; literacy; mathematics; understanding of the world; expressive arts and design. You can find out more about our whole curriculum via the links below.
As always, if you have any queries about the curriculum or about your child’s progress and development, please do come in and discuss it with their class teacher. The best time for a quick word or to arrange a time for a more in depth chat, is at the end of the school day. If you feel your concerns are not resolved effectively, please feel free to come and chat with the head teacher.
