Our vision is to create successful human beings who together, are inspired by the challenge of life. This is central to all that we do.
Our outcomes for our children leaving school are for them to be:
Whatever their individual challenge is, children will be encouraged to make it happen by…
CREATING DREAMS, HOPES AND THE FUTURE
Every child is given the encouragement to flourish through developing their hopes and dreams and the skills and talents needed to make them happen. Whatever their individual challenge is, children will be encouraged to make it happen by…
FEEDING THE MIND
We offer children inspiring and enjoyable ways to engage their minds and grow into independent successful learners who thrive on the curiosity of life.
STRENGTHENING THE BODY
A healthy body helps a healthy mind. Our bodies are a once in a life time gift to last us our whole life time. We offer children many exciting ways to use and strengthen their bodies so they are fit for life.
COPYING ROLE MODELS
Copying is the way all people naturally learn. We offer children a safe and caring environment to take risks, make mistakes and learn from their experiences and from each other. Every child is supported to contribute to their peers, the school and the local community.
TAKING MASSIVE ACTION
We encourage children to take massive action in reaching their potential. Day by day children are supported in developing their skills and talents. We create many opportunities for children to have first hand experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
STRENGTHENING THE SPIRIT by being grateful and giving extraordinarily
We offer children an experience of a caring and supportive community within the school – a real sense of family. Every child is supported to become a role model to others and to resolve issues in a forgiving and peaceful manner. We help them learn a set of values to equip them with the ability to tackle the amazing challenges this world has to offer.
How we implement our approach
The school has developed this approach over a number of years integrating four key aspects of education:
- living out of Christian values
- being a successful learner
- being fit and healthy
- being ready for Secondary school both academically with reading, writing and mathematics and socially having supportive friendships.
These four areas have been developed into a model for supporting the development of successful human beings who are together inspired by the challenge of life. The model is based on:
- creating a vision
- knowing the desired outcomes
- providing opportunity and context for the vision to happen
- learning the skills needed along the way.
For this vision to have a chance of succeeding, we have turned the school’s curriculum on its head – we are now looking at the curriculum from how it can support our vision instead of looking how to fit our vision around the curriculum.
This important distinction allows us to reflect on where our children’s needs are and act accordingly, working from where the children are at, and hence giving permission to adapt and change the curriculum in moving the children on. In other words, “if it does not fit in with moving the children on, don’t do it” and conversely “if it does fit, then do it a whole lot more!” This approach has been highly successful in English and Mathematics over the past two to three years.
The context or opportunities are routinely scheduled to provide a focus for learning and growth. We aim to keep these manageable, effective using the principle of doing less better. The skills to support the journey are drawn from the National Curriculum and may be taught in a themed or subject specific manner but always out of the developing successful human beings.
